AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) is the native language of many Deaf people and the primary language of many others who have learned it later in life. It is part of the culture of the Deaf community and is recognised as a community language. AUSLAN is a visual-gestural language which uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning and has its own grammatical system that is different to that of the English language.
This course is designed for Early Childhood Educators, teachers and staff to communicate with Deaf or hearing impaired children. It is a great skill to have and opens up a world of learning possibilities for the children in your care. You will be able to communicate and understand Deaf or hearing impaired children and/or parents and gain a greater understanding on what learning activities and games are suitable.
As the trainer is a member of the Deaf community, the class will be taught in the real world of Deaf people.
Students need to attend 75% of the course to be eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement on the final day.

Terence is a highly experienced Auslan trainer with over 40 year’s experience and is heavily involved in the Deaf Community.
Notepad and pen. Participants are encouraged to download either Signbank or Smart Auslan (Apple only) to their smartphones through Google Play or the App Store.
4 x 4 hour sessions = 16 hours
